Minister of Maritime Affairs Filip Radulović met with the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Arseniy Dominguez on the sidelines of an extraordinary session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) in London.
During the meeting, Radulović informed the Secretary General about the ongoing and planned activities of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs regarding the implementation and enforcement of mandatory IMO instruments in Montenegro.
Radulović, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs announced, emphasized the importance of the meeting.
"This meeting confirms Montenegro's commitment to improving the maritime sector and protecting the marine environment through active participation in international processes and strengthening cooperation with the IMO," said Radulović.
Dominguez, the statement reads, expressed satisfaction with the presence of the Montenegrin delegation at the extraordinary session of the MEPC and thanked Montenegro for its active participation and interest in the voting process on amendments to Annex VI of the MARPOL Convention.
"Dominguez also emphasized the IMO's readiness to provide Montenegro with technical support through mechanisms for capacity building and development of maritime institutions, with the aim of further improving the implementation of international standards in the field of marine environmental protection and maritime affairs," it was announced.
The IMO Secretary General thanked the Montenegrin delegation for its contribution to the work and encouraged Montenegro's continued active participation in the upcoming regular IMO Assembly at the end of the year, as well as through more intensive cooperation with the organization's working bodies.
