A just and sustainable green transition is one of Montenegro's key priorities, said State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy and Mining Matija Medojević.

He held a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Competitiveness of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Abdul Lutah and the Chargé d'Affaires of the UAE Embassy in Montenegro Yusuf Almazrui. The meeting was also attended by the Acting Director General of the Directorate for Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mining Zorana Sekulić, as well as the Head of the Cabinet in that department Ivana Smolović.

Medojević informed Lutah about the results of the Ministry of Energy and Mining to date, as well as the priorities in the coming period related to ensuring a stable energy future for Montenegro through the development of renewable energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

"We expect Montenegro to become a full member of the EU by 2028, and on that path, a just and sustainable green transition is one of our key priorities," Medojević emphasized.

He pointed out the special importance of building a second submarine interconnection cable with Italy and connecting the Montenegrin electricity market with the European one.

"Lutah welcomed the efforts of the Ministry of Energy and Mining in improving the energy sector, emphasizing that there is ample room for the exchange of knowledge, expertise and best practices, as well as the UAE's willingness to continue investing in energy development projects in the future," the ministry said.
