The Energy Community has praised Montenegro for its progress in decarbonizing the heating and cooling sector, the Ministry of Energy and Mining announced.
It is stated that Montenegro has achieved new success on the path of energy transition.
"The Energy Community Secretariat welcomed the submission of a comprehensive analysis of the development of high-efficiency cogeneration and efficient district heating and cooling systems, stressing that it is an important step towards the decarbonisation of one of the sectors with the highest energy consumption," the statement said.
It is stated that with this document, which the Ministry drafted in accordance with Article 14 of the Energy Efficiency Directive and obligations under the Energy Community Treaty, Montenegro demonstrates its strategic commitment to the modernization of the energy system and the adoption of European standards.
The Ministry said that the analysis represents the first systematic review of the use of energy for heating and cooling in Montenegro, along with the identification of measures that can contribute to reducing consumption, modernizing infrastructure, and switching to clean energy sources.
"Thus, we are laying the foundations for long-term planning, stability of energy policies, and attracting investments in sustainable solutions," the Ministry announced.
They said that the document was developed with the technical support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development through the Regional Energy Efficiency Program - a window for political dialogue that provides expert support to the Energy Community contracting states.
"The Energy Community Secretariat assessed this step as another important result of Montenegro in the energy transition process and an example of a responsible approach to decarbonization at the regional level," the statement said.
