11 applications were received for the repeated (second) competition for the director of the Deposit Protection Fund (FZD), and the session of the Board of Directors at which the decision on the selection will be made will be held in 10 to 15 days.

This was officially stated to "Vijesti" by the president of the board of directors of the FZD. Borko Božović.

The Fund announced a new vacancy for the director after the Board of Directors canceled the first vacancy announced in mid-August at the end of October because none of the registered candidates received the required number of votes.

Mandate of the current Fund Director Vojin Vlahović expired yesterday and, as previously announced by the Board of Directors, he will continue to perform his function in accordance with Article 12 of the Statute until the appointment of a director.

"Currently, an official check is underway with the competent ministry for each of the registered candidates - that they have not been sentenced to an unconditional prison sentence or convicted of an act that makes them unworthy of performing the function of the Fund's director. In addition, preliminarily, at this moment there is nothing that would indicate that any of the registered candidates does not meet the requirements of the competition. Of course, upon receipt of the aforementioned certificates from the competent ministry, according to the Statute - the Fund's secretary will prepare a report on the candidates, stating whether the candidates meet all the requirements of the competition, with the Board of Directors deciding whether these requirements have been met. Due to the aforementioned incomplete documentation, as well as for the reasons that we were guided by in the initial (first) competition for the aforementioned issue, I would not announce the names of the registered candidates. Of course, this does not prevent any candidate from publicly announcing that they have run for office, if they wish to do so," Božović pointed out.

He added that for now, the issue of conducting interviews with candidates has not been considered, although the possibility of conducting interviews exists.

"The session at which the decision on the election of the director will be made has not yet been scheduled, and will most likely be held in 10-15 days, given the missing certificates, other administrative actions that need to be carried out, upcoming public holidays and other previously undertaken work obligations of the members of the Board of Directors. In general, we need to have more patience to complete this process considering all its aspects, and the public will have more timely information as justified and optimal conditions are created for this," said Božović.

One of the candidates Mladen Bojanic sent a letter to the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (ASK) on October 24, requesting an investigation into Vlahović's appointment to that position in 2021. Bojanić claims that, based on the documentation he received, Vlahović was illegally appointed in 2021 and asks the ASK to investigate whether these illegalities threaten the public interest, or indicate the existence of corruption.

Vlahović assessed Bojanić's allegations about the alleged endangerment of the public interest and references to the existence of corruption as tendentious and unfounded, and that he rejects them with indignation.
