The Executive Director of the Pljevlja Coal Mine (RUP) Nemanja Laković and his associates are on a working visit to the municipality of Velenje in Slovenia.
During the visit, as stated in the statement of Rudnik Gulja, a meeting was held with Mayor Peter Dermol, at which experiences were exchanged in implementing the just transition process, one of the key development challenges of both communities.
"Mayor Peter Dermol presented the models and mechanisms that the Municipality of Velenje is applying in the transformation process, particularly emphasizing the importance of continuous withdrawal of funds from EU funds, 96 percent of which are non-refundable, i.e. around 80 million euros, as well as timely planning and active involvement of the local community," the statement said.
Velenje is considered one of the most successful examples in the region when it comes to managing the transition of mining areas towards sustainable and diversified economic activities.
Both parties expressed their willingness to continue cooperation through the exchange of experience and good practices that can contribute to sustainable economic development, more efficient implementation of processes, and improvement of life in mining communities.
