Montenegro is strengthening its role in the development of the TEN-T network, especially through the improvement of the Port of Bar, which is becoming a key regional hub, announced Minister of Maritime Affairs Filip Radulović at the Transport Community ministerial meeting in Brussels.
Radulović presented the most important results of Montenegro in the field of maritime affairs and European transport integration.
"Maritime is a strategic lever for the development of Montenegro. Our goal is a strong and integrated connection with the European transport network, and the reforms we are implementing improve standards, safety and quality of services for the benefit of citizens and the economy," said Radulović.
The WBIF is implementing the 1,6 million euro Port of Bar Modernization project, which includes deepening the water area to accommodate larger ships and renovating the port's railway infrastructure. It also contributes to the ability to monitor the flow of goods, logistics processes, and make decisions based on real-time data.
Radulović announced that the Ministry is introducing a national Port Community System that will connect all participants and accelerate work in ports.
"We have prepared key laws. We have received the green light from the EC for the Law on Maritime Safety, we are waiting for an opinion from Brussels for the Law on the Prevention of Marine Pollution from Ships, while next week we will also send the Law on Ports to the EC for an opinion," said Radulović.
The Ministry said that this is the first maritime law ever sent to the European Commission (EC) for verification of compliance with the EU acquis, and therefore the first maritime act to ever receive a positive assessment from the EC.
