Changing the legal regulations in the maritime sector is of utmost importance for its improvement, it was announced at a meeting between Maritime Affairs Minister Filip Radulović and representatives of the Seafarers' Union.
During the meeting, special emphasis was placed on the Law on Maritime Navigation Safety, which has already passed the Government and is currently in the parliamentary procedure.
"I believe that the Law on Maritime Navigation Safety will be adopted in parliament by the end of the year. With this law, we are introducing order into the maritime sector, but also significantly raising the level of safety at sea," said Radulović.
He informed the representatives of the Seafarers' Union about the shortcomings that the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) noted in its latest report, and whose elimination is currently being intensively worked on.
"We have already managed to eliminate a significant part of the identified deficiencies. I believe that by the next inspection, planned for next year, we will be able to eliminate as many of the remaining irregularities as possible," said Radulović.
The meeting agreed on more intensive cooperation between the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Seafarers' Union, with joint work on improving the legislative and institutional framework in this area.
It was also announced that the maritime sector is ready to listen to and accept ideas and initiatives coming from seafarers themselves, in order to adapt solutions to the real needs of the profession.
