The government has given the green light for the project to reconstruct the 220 kilovolt (kV) Trebinje - Perućica - Podgorica - Koplik transmission line, worth up to 15 million euros, which will strengthen and modernize Montenegro's electricity transmission network, the Ministry of Energy and Mining announced.

The Ministry explained that the reconstruction of this important transmission line will bring a safer and more stable electricity supply to citizens and the economy.

"This transmission line has been in operation for more than 50 years and it is time for it to receive new, modern equipment. Its improvement increases the capacity of the network, reduces the risk of failures and creates conditions for incorporating more energy from the sun and water into the system - clean, domestic energy that is crucial for the future of Montenegro," the statement said.

The project, which is being implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, strengthens the country's energy security and improves regional connectivity. The works are planned to be completed by the end of 2028, and the long-term benefits will be felt by both citizens and the economy.

The Minister of Energy and Mining, Admir Šahmanović, said that the Government, as announced, is simultaneously planning and implementing significant projects in the energy system.

"This is another concrete step in the process of modernizing the electricity grid. We are strengthening the system to ensure a stable supply for our citizens, but also to create conditions for the connection of new energy facilities, especially those that use renewable energy sources," said Šahmanović.

He added that in this way they are building a modern, reliable and sustainable energy system for Montenegro.
