Despite the challenging start to the winter tourist season in Žabljak, which was unfortunately marked by the tragedy on the "Savin Kuk" cable car and inadequate weather conditions during the New Year holidays, the Žabljak Tourist Organization is working hard to make the stay in Žabljak a pleasant, safe and interesting experience for all visitors.
"We were unlucky that we had no snow for the past three winter tourist seasons, the ski infrastructure was poor in previous years as well. Although we acquired two artificial snow cannons for the first time this year, they have not been put into operation. We have about ten percent fewer tourists compared to the same period last year. However, with the snowfall and the opening of the ski lifts on Savin Kuk, the situation has changed significantly. Most tourists come from the surrounding area - Montenegro, Serbia and Croatia, but we also have guests from Western Europe and China. I hope that we will have nice weather in the coming period, and that attendance will be much better during the weekends and holidays. I hope that we will round off this season much better than we started it," said the director of the Žabljak Tourist Office, Stojan Abazović, Mediabiro reports.
Due to all the aforementioned problems, Abazović appealed to the state to provide them with support so that they can welcome the next tourist season more prepared.
"I hope that the state will finally make the right moves, and that the issue of ski infrastructure in Žabljak will be resolved. We need to find an adequate solution to get out of the crisis and to urgently resolve the issue of Savin Kuk next year. It is a good thing that a conceptual design for the cable car is being developed, but UNESCO plays the main role because what we can do on Savin Kuk will depend on them. With good and smart investment next year, we can at least get the ski lifts operational. We certainly have a big job ahead of us where we will have to solve some things more urgently, because we depend a lot on winter tourism. With the right investment and the right strategies, we can make a step forward compared to all previous years. I hope that in the future we will be more agile, faster and significantly improve ski tourism on Durmitor," said Abazović.
On this occasion, as reported by Mediabiro, he reminded of all the advantages that Žabljak offers as a tourist destination and pointed to the increasingly better results recorded during the summer season.
"Žabljak is adorned with unreal nature. We have 50 peaks over 2.000 meters above sea level, many hiking trails, 18 lakes, four canyons, rafting, canyoning, cycling, paragliding, skiing, Nordic skiing... Another advantage is the easy accessibility of Žabljak and Durmitor, where you can visit several locations in one day. Žabljak is a great place for an active vacation. Last year's summer tourist season and the entire last year were the most successful so far, we had 195.000 overnight stays, which is a growth of 28 percent," emphasized the director of the Žabljak Tourist Board.
Abazović also drew attention to other attractive features that visitors can enjoy in the coming period.
"This year, we also have an ice rink located in the center that is open from 14 to 21 p.m. every day. We also have the Durmitor Winter Race ahead of us. Encouraged by the success of the summer races, we decided to launch a winter race in cooperation with Durmitor Runners, and I hope that it will also grow into a tradition that will adorn Durmitor every coming winter," he added.
