Truckers from Serbia block border crossings with Montenegro

The Serbian Transporters' Association began blocking freight traffic at all border crossings with Montenegro today, shortly after 18 p.m., Vijesti has learned.

Transporters from Serbia have blocked exits and entrances at border crossings with Montenegro, while previously they had only blocked crossings with European Union (EU) member states.

This will cause new problems, as truckers from Serbia are blocking freight traffic, which will stop imports and exports to Montenegro.

The information reached the Police Directorate just a few hours after the Montenegrin Transport Association suspended border blockades of freight traffic today.

The decision to withdraw the trucks was made after negotiations with the Government.

The blockades by truck drivers in Montenegro lasted from January 26 to the present, and they organized them because they are demanding changes to the excise tax rate they receive a refund for per liter of fuel, faster VAT refunds, longer work hours for border customs and phytosanitary inspections, changes to ETIAS, and preferential work experience.

The traffic suspension is also part of a regional protest by freight carriers from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro, due to the limitation of the duration of stay and work of professional drivers in Schengen countries to a maximum of 90 days in a six-month period.
