The Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Administration has initiated the procedure for withdrawing from the market the Nutricia (Danone) brand infant formula, originating in Ireland, after being informed via a RASFF notification - the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (EU RASFF) that Montenegro is on the list of countries to which certain batches of formula were delivered in which the presence of cereulide, a toxin produced by the pathogenic bacterium Bacillus cereus, was detected.
"The products for which there is doubt regarding safety and which are being withdrawn from the market include infant formula, follow-on formula and FSMP formula, brand Nutricia (Danone), originating from Ireland. The aforementioned products are imported into Serbia, where the central distribution center is located, while distribution for the Montenegrin market is carried out from Serbia, within the framework of regional distribution. The importer for the Montenegrin market is Glosarij doo, which is responsible for implementing all measures to withdraw products from circulation, in accordance with applicable legal regulations," the statement on the Government's website states.
The Administration reminded that, in accordance with the law, the importer is obliged to withdraw products from the market, inform consumers through the media and/or its official website, and to submit to the Administration a report on the withdrawn quantities and the method of their destruction or return to the foreign supplier.
"We inform the public, consumers and all entities in the distribution chain that, based on the received RASFF notification (Notification number: 821686, Reference: 2026.1017, date: 06.02.2026), the procedure for withdrawing certain product series - infant formula - from the Montenegrin market has been initiated. We also use this opportunity to publicly inform all pharmacies and retail outlets that they are obliged to immediately act upon the importer's request, to immediately withdraw the disputed products from sale and to provide the importer with feedback on the implemented product withdrawal," the statement concludes.
