Municipality of Bar: Podgorica-Bari air route of great importance for the development of tourism and economy

The Municipality of Bar welcomed the Government's decision to declare the Podgorica-Bari air connection a line in the public interest in air transport, which will operate throughout the year.

"The Municipality of Bar, of which Bari is a sister city, applied in November last year to the Ministry of Transport to declare the line with Bari a priority and of public importance," the statement said.

The Bar municipality said that with the cancellation of the traditional Bar-Bari-Bar ferry line, one of the most important connections with that part of Europe was lost, which significantly reduced the number of passengers, tourists, but also the economic activity of that important market with Bar and the state.

"Italy, a market with 60 million inhabitants, is Montenegro's largest neighbor and one of the most important EU countries to which Montenegro aspires and represents enormous potential for development," the statement added.

The Municipality of Bar expects that this line will partially compensate for the influx of tourists and businesses from this market and fulfill expectations in terms of strengthening the competitiveness of Bar, but also of the entire Montenegrin coast and the country.
