The Electric Power Company (EPCG) has, with the data it has published, actually confirmed what the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) is pointing out - that the purchase of electricity from renewable sources has brought tens of millions of euros in savings, the party announced.
They said that yesterday's EPCG statement represents "another attempt to deceive the public directed by the post-August 30 liberators."
"Although it is trying to impose a manipulative narrative about the alleged cost to citizens, EPCG has actually confirmed with the data it published what DPS is indicating - that the purchase of electricity from renewable sources has brought tens of millions of euros in savings. This is also indicated by official data from the Ministry of Capital Investments from 2022, which represent unequivocal confirmation that EPCG, thanks to the purchase of electricity from renewable sources, achieved savings of 73 million euros in the first ten months of that year. This means that energy from renewable sources was purchased at a significantly lower price than the one at which it was purchased on the market in the same period. Therefore, the fact is that renewable sources were not a problem, but one of the key shock absorbers of the energy crisis," DPS announced.
They say that EPCG is therefore obliged to answer the citizens' question - at what price would they buy electricity today if there were no production from renewable sources.
"If they are already claiming that this energy is not being purchased for export, but for the stability of the system, then they must clearly state how much this 'stability' would cost citizens if they had to purchase the same energy on the stock exchange at many times higher prices. They also owe citizens an answer to the questions: where did the energy that is no longer being supplied to the Podgorica Aluminum Plant disappear to, which EPCG previously claimed would bring in around 100 million euros in pure profit, where are these revenues, where is the profit that they publicly spoke about," adds DPS.
They said that EPCG did not provide any answers to these questions, as well as to the question of why they do not launch an initiative to amend the Regulation and abolish incentives when the market price is higher than the guaranteed one; but that the company instead "issued a political statement written by those whose ignorance and incompetence are destroying the energy sector today."
"Finally, it is more than clear why EPCG is so blatantly silent on all these issues - because if they admit today that energy from renewable sources was cheaper than market energy, then it is clear that their political attacks and attempts to shift responsibility to others are nothing more than an attempt to divert attention from poor management and catastrophic results in the energy sector," the statement reads.
