The winter tourist season at the state-run Kolašin 1600 Ski Center ended on Wednesday, after 77 ski days.
According to the Ski Resort of Montenegro, within which the ski center operates, since December 11 last year, when the tourist winter on Bjelasica began, there have been around 80.000 guests and approximately 25.000 ski passes sold. The ski season originally ended in mid-March, but after new snowfalls in Serbia and Montenegro, they decided to reopen the slopes to visitors.
"The extension of the winter tourist season at the Kolašin 1600 ski resort has multiple positive effects, both on the business of Serbia and Montenegro, and on the overall tourist offer of Kolašin and northern Montenegro. Each additional skiing day means new visits, higher income and additional valorization of the ski resort's capacities, but also a significant multiplicative effect on the local economy, from the hotel industry and private accommodation to catering and related services... The extension of the season further contributes to these results, especially considering the more stable weather conditions at the end of winter, which allow for quality skiing at later times than in previous years," they told "Vijesti" from Serbia and Montenegro.
Even during the season that just ended, part of the ski infrastructure was not in operation. Due to the shifting of the ground around the foundation of pillar number 4 of the six-seater K7, this cable car was not in operation, as were the dozen or so trails that follow it. Also, due to the non-functioning of the six-seater, the ski infrastructure of the state-owned and neighboring private ski resort Kolašin 1450 was not unified into a single offer. The cable car, in which the state invested nine million euros, was damaged in the spring of 2024 during construction work on private plots of land owned by the Ski-resort Kolašin 1450 company. Zoran Ćoć Bećirović.
"When it comes to infrastructure, it is important to point out that the situation on pillar 4 of the K7 cable car is currently being resolved, where ground movement previously occurred due to work on private plots. A third tender has been announced and the evaluation of the submitted bids is currently underway. We expect the works to be completed by the end of July, which will make this segment of the system fully repaired and ready for the next winter season," SCG explains.
In parallel with the six-seater lift, they say, they are working intensively on improving the overall offer of the ski resort. Key development projects, announced by the state-owned company, include the establishment of an artificial snowmaking system, which will enable greater safety and a longer season, as well as the introduction of night skiing on the most frequented slopes.
"Also, an expansion of the capacity of the Troglava restaurant is planned, which will further improve the quality of guests' stay. The Kolašin 1600 ski resort is recording an increase in guest interest, not only from the region but also from European markets, which confirms that this destination is increasingly occupying an important place on the winter tourism map," they say in SCG.
As announced on social media, the season at the private ski center ends on April 12th.
