The first wind generator of the Gvozd wind farm (VE) has been put into trial operation, and the produced kilowatt-hours have been successfully delivered to the Montenegrin power system, the Electric Power Company (EPCG) announced.
The company said that, following the commissioning of the Gvozd substation, the reconstruction of the Krnovo substation, and the Gvozd-Krnovo transmission line, the first of a total of eight wind generators has been put into trial operation.
"The first wind generator, with an individual power of 7 MW, is already producing electricity, and the first kilowatt-hours produced have been successfully delivered to the Montenegrin power system. This represents an important step towards strengthening the stability of the system and further valorization of domestic energy resources," the statement said.
The total installed capacity of the Gvozd wind farm is 54,6 MW, while the expected annual production is around 150 GWh. The project was implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which provided a loan of 82 million euros.
EPCG said that the successive commissioning of the remaining wind generators is planned in the coming days, which will bring the Gvozd wind farm to full capacity, and that the official commissioning ceremony is planned for mid-May.
The President of the Board of Directors of EPCG, Milutin Đukanović, said that the Gvozd wind farm represents a strong confirmation of the strategic commitment of Elektroprivreda to build a sustainable and modern energy future.
"This project further affirms Montenegro as the capital of energy and culture, and we are particularly pleased with the fact that this project includes the largest onshore wind generator in Europe - a symbol of technological progress and our development ambitions," said Đukanović.
The Executive Director of EPCG, Zdravko Dragaš, pointed out that the commissioning of the first wind generator of the Gvozd wind farm marks the beginning of the final phase of the project, which represents one of the most significant investment undertakings in modern Montenegro.
"This project confirms our ability to successfully implement complex energy projects and further accelerate the energy transition process towards clean and sustainable energy sources," Dragaš emphasized.
The Gvozd wind farm, as stated by EPCG, represents another strong pillar of the development of domestic electricity production from renewable sources, contributing to the stability of the electricity system and long-term sustainability.
"EPCG continues with strategic investments in the development of energy capacities, confirming its key role in building a secure, stable and European-oriented energy future for Montenegro," the statement said.
