The access road to Tivat Airport is not in the contract, claims the main subcontractor of works on the Tivat - Jaz boulevard

The company "Bemax", which is the main subcontractor for the construction of the Tivat-Jaz boulevard, claims that the construction of the traffic access to Tivat Airport from the route of the new boulevard is not at all foreseen in the contract that the investor of the boulevard construction, the Traffic Administration, concluded with the contractor, the Chinese company "Shangdong".

"The new traffic access to Tivat Airport is not part of the boulevard project we are working on, but the company 'Bemax' nevertheless came out to meet the investor and left the old access to the airport passable. The intersection currently used for access to the airport is actually the old access from the Adriatic Highway, which, according to the revised project of the Tivat-Jaz boulevard, is planned to be abolished and the connection left at the new bridge over the Gradiošnica River, which is closer to Tivat," the executive director of "Bemax" told "Vijesti" Miladin Mijajlović.

Although the summer IATA aviation season at Tivat Airport, and with it the summer tourist season in Boka Bay, began on March 28, the current traffic access to Tivat Airport from the route of the new boulevard is still in very poor condition and presents an extremely ugly picture to the increasing number of tourists traveling through this airport.

The intersection from the boulevard to the airport terminal building has not yet been fully completed, nor has its connection to the boulevard been adequately leveled and paved, the sidewalks have not yet been concreted, and the pedestrian islands are unkempt and there are still piles of construction material everywhere. By the way, there has been almost no worker or construction machinery at this intersection for days. The approach to the airport is therefore in a catastrophic state, especially considering the fact that Tivat Airport is to be the main arrival gate through which EU leaders will arrive in Montenegro for the 5th time for the European Union - Western Balkans Summit, which our country is hosting.

The Traffic Administration, which is the investor in the construction of the boulevard, did not precisely answer the question of "Vijesti" why, despite the fact that the summer aviation and tourist season in Tivat began almost a month ago, at least the arrangement of the traffic access to the Tivat Airport, which is one of the most convenient places on the entire route of the boulevard, has not yet been completed.

"This is an infrastructure-demanding project that is being implemented in phases, with constant coordination of all involved entities and adjustment of the work dynamics in accordance with technical and organizational requirements in the field," stated the Administration, headed by the Director Radomir Vuksanovic.

The management of "Bemax" says that the construction of a new traffic access to the airport, as drawn in the boulevard project, was not envisaged or contracted at all when concluding the deal with the Chinese contractor.

"Given that the project envisages the removal of the old access road, we had a request from the investor, the Traffic Administration, to leave the broken curbs in that area so that there would still be temporary communication, we emphasize temporary, towards Tivat Airport, which the company 'Bemax' did," Mijajlović told "Vijesti".

He also submitted photos of the new access road to the Aerodrome, which is planned by the boulevard project, and from which the road to the terminal building should pass through part of the complex near the Tivat airport, where the former customs warehouse of the company "Optimus" is located, which is officially a temporary facility in the coastal zone and which had to be removed so far, which has not yet happened.

Mijajlović says that in this situation, if the functional old airport access had not been removed, there would be no passable road at all for passengers to access the Tivat airport.

"As a responsible and serious company, we agree that such an approach is inadequate and we are available to solve this problem. However, we need an official instruction - a request from the investor in order to be able to proceed with any works that are not an integral part of the Tivat-Jaz boulevard project, because as is known, all works must be carried out in full accordance with the project documentation, without any improvisations," said the director of "Bemax".
