The Ministry of Tourism has approved financing for the adaptation of the Motički gaj - Savin kuk road route in the amount of almost 819 thousand euros, announced the Minister of Tourism, Simonida Kordić, during an official visit to Žabljak.

She told the leaders of the Žabljak Municipality that this provides significant funds for improving key tourism infrastructure in Žabljak, reports Mediabiro.

"Žabljak is one of the true tourist pearls of Montenegro, not only during the winter, but also in the summer. Žabljak shows that the tourist season has been significantly extended. With these investments, the improvement of road infrastructure and other investments that we have already launched, we are actually creating the conditions for the tourist season in Žabljak to last all year round," Kordić pointed out.

The Ministry of Tourism has allocated funds from the capital budget subprogram "Improvement of the tourist offer", and the Ministry of Public Works, within its jurisdiction, will initiate a public procurement procedure for the implementation of this project.

As Kordić pointed out, this investment represents an important step towards improving the tourism offer of the northern region of Montenegro, which is recognized as one of the strategic priorities for the development of the country, especially in the segment of winter and ski tourism.

The aim of such investments is to reduce regional disparities and encourage more balanced economic development between the north and south of the country.

"In addition to investing in this road, the Ministry of Tourism allocated money from its own budget last year to purchase artificial snow cannons. Of course, this is just the beginning of further development. It is also very important that together with the Government, the Development Bank, the Municipality of Žabljak and the Ministry of Public Works, we launched an initiative and embarked on the process of complete reconstruction, i.e. the installation of a completely new cable car infrastructure in cooperation with UNESCO," said Kordić.

The Municipality believes that this investment is an important step towards improving the tourism offer of the northern region of Montenegro, which is recognized as one of the strategic priorities for the development of the country, especially in the segment of winter and ski tourism.

The Mayor of the Municipality, Radoje Žugić, announced that Žabljak needs constant infrastructure improvement.

"As you heard from the minister, we have positive signals when it comes to the relevant ministries. Certainly, in due course, in coordination with the state, further steps and financial resources will be decided when it comes to adapting this road," said Žugić.

The President of the Municipal Assembly, Ivan Popović, pointed out why it is important to invest in infrastructure in Žabljak.

"The Municipality of Žabljak is so indented that it has about 150 kilometers of roads that we clean in the winter, so the machinery damages a lot of roads in the winter. This investment by the Ministry of Tourism, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Works, the Government and the Municipality of Žabljak, will mean a lot not only to the Savin Kuk ski resort and tourists, but also to the population that gravitates to this region," said Popović.

As announced, the Ministry of Tourism will continue to implement activities aimed at improving infrastructure and raising the overall quality of the country's tourism offer in the coming period.
