Montenegro is showing today that it can be an example for the region when it comes to implementing reforms in the energy sector, announced the Minister of Energy and Mining, Admir Šahmanović.

"We have worked intensively on harmonizing legislation with EU regulations and with great optimism we expect the imminent closure of Chapter 15 - Energy. This is confirmation that Montenegro is building a modern, stable and European energy system," said Šahmanović.

He participated in the Belgrade Energy Forum, one of the most important regional gatherings dedicated to energy, energy transition and the future of the energy sector in Southeast Europe.

The forum was opened by the Director of the Energy Community, Artur Lorkovski, and the Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, who in their introductory speeches pointed out the importance of regional cooperation, energy security, and accelerating the green transition process.

Speaking at the panel about Montenegro's European path in the field of energy, Šahmanović emphasized that the country has made significant progress in harmonizing its legislation with the acquis communautaire of the European Union (EU), especially in the area related to energy and climate policy.

He emphasized that the region's energy transition is no longer a matter of the future, but a process that is happening now and that requires capital investments, regional cooperation, and a clear strategic vision.

"We have a strong investment cycle ahead of us and we are working intensively on it. Montenegro's focus is on new sources of green energy, strengthening the country's energy independence and creating a reliable investment environment for large energy projects," said Šahmanović.

He assessed that the great interest in this year's forum confirms that energy is one of the key political and economic issues in Europe and the region today.

"I always have important and current topics to discuss with my fellow energy ministers from the region. Such meetings are an opportunity to exchange experiences, define common priorities and send a message to Brussels that the Western Balkans region is a responsible and reliable partner in the green transition process," concluded Šahmanović.

On the sidelines of the forum, Šahmanović had several bilateral meetings with representatives of energy companies, investors and international partners, during which new investments and projects in the field of renewable energy sources and energy infrastructure were discussed.
