Đukanović: EPCG is implementing the energy transition responsibly and in a planned manner

"Green energy sources, except for hydropower, can hardly achieve their full potential without strong development of battery systems. CBAM should not be seen as a burden, but as a great development opportunity, while electricity production must remain under state control as a strategic branch of the economy," said the Chairman of the Board of Directors of EPCG, Milutin Đukanović.

Elektroprivreda (EPCG) is implementing the energy transition responsibly and in a planned manner, with a clear vision of preserving the country's energy stability and strengthening domestic production capacities, said the chairman of the company's Board of Directors, Milutin Đukanović.

Djukanovic said this at the Belgrade Energy Forum (BEF).

EPCG stated in a statement that today, at the BEF, the company confirmed its important role in regional energy transition processes and the development of a sustainable energy system, through the active participation of Đukanović and Executive Director Zdravko Dragaš at one of the most important energy gatherings in Southeast Europe.

"During the first day of the Forum, which was dedicated to energy security, decarbonization and the future of the region's power systems, EPCG representatives participated in discussions with decision-makers, representatives of international institutions and representatives of leading energy companies from Europe and the region," the statement said.

At the panel "Transition of the Power System towards a Flexible, Secure and Decarbonized Future", Đukanović emphasized that EPCG is implementing the energy transition responsibly and in a planned manner, with a clear vision of preserving the country's energy stability and strengthening domestic production capacities.

"Green energy sources, other than hydropower, can hardly achieve their full potential without strong development of battery systems. CBAM should not be seen as a burden, but as a great development opportunity, while electricity production must remain under state control as a strategic branch of the economy," said Đukanović.

The statement states that the energy transition represents a major challenge, but also a huge development opportunity for the entire region, and that EPCG is currently investing intensively in renewable energy projects, system modernization and strengthening Montenegro's energy security.

"Our goal is for EPCG to be one of the key carriers of the green transition in the region, but also a company that will ensure a stable and secure supply of electricity to citizens and the economy. We believe that only through responsible planning, investments and regional cooperation can we build a sustainable energy system of the future," said Đukanović.

BEF brought together representatives of governments, energy companies and international organizations, as well as experts from the region and Europe, with the aim of exchanging experiences and defining key directions for the development of the energy sector in a period of intensive green transition.

"By participating in this prestigious event, EPCG once again confirms its commitment to actively monitoring modern energy flows, developing partnership relations at the regional level and contributing to the creation of a sustainable and secure energy future for Montenegro," the statement says.
