Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Vladimir Joković will, at the request of deputies from the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), be heard by the Parliamentary Committee for Tourism, Agriculture, Ecology and Spatial Planning, due to the situation in agriculture and problems in the dairy sector.
The initiative states that the agricultural sector in Montenegro faces serious challenges that threaten the sustainability of domestic production, the competitiveness of agricultural farms, and the country's food security.
They particularly highlight problems in the dairy sector, stating that the purchase of milk from domestic producers is increasingly being suspended, while at the same time the import of dairy products is increasing.
"Dairy owners clearly do not have sufficient capacity to process and store milk during seasonal production peaks, and an additional problem is the reduction in the number of milk producers," the initiative states in its explanation.
DPS MPs assess that the accumulated problems require a detailed review of the responsibilities of the competent institutions, as well as the definition of specific support measures for agricultural producers.
According to them, it is necessary to create conditions for sustainable and competitive development of agriculture in Montenegro.
