The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is ready to continue to provide support to priority development projects and reforms aimed at improving the competitiveness and quality of life of Montenegrin citizens, said the Head of its Office in Montenegro, Remon Zakaria.
At a meeting with the Minister of Finance, Novica Vuković, it was assessed that the continuation of the construction of the Bar–Boljare highway, especially the Mateševo–Andrijevica section, represents one of the most important strategic infrastructure projects for Montenegro and a key step towards strengthening connections with the region and the European road network.
The EBRD team, led by Zakaria, today presented a draft of a new five-year strategy for Montenegro, which is expected to be adopted in September and will be based on energy and infrastructure, strengthening private sector competitiveness and improving economic governance. The strategy, as explained, will be comprehensive and will include broader economic inclusion, with a particular focus on renewable energy sources, greater representation of women in business, sustainable development and strengthening economic resilience.
Vuković said at the meeting that the next phase of Montenegro's development must be based on sustainable growth, green transition, regional connectivity and a stronger private sector, and that the priorities of the EBRD's strategy coincide with those of the Government.
"Montenegro and the EBRD have a strong partnership that has lasted for more than two decades, and over a billion EUR in investments confirms that it is one of our most important development partners," said Vuković.
EBRD representatives congratulated Montenegro on its significant achievements, not only on its European path, but also in implementing structural reforms.
The meeting also discussed the continuation of successful cooperation, with a special focus on supporting development projects, improving the investment environment, and strengthening economic stability.
