The modernization of the customs information system is important for Montenegro's accession to the European Union, as the new system will enable the harmonization of the Montenegrin customs environment with European requirements and practices, it was assessed at the meeting of the Montenegro Customs Information System (MECIS) program.
The Customs Administration announced that the program is being implemented as part of a donation from Slovenia to Montenegro. After a public procurement procedure, the company ZZI was awarded the contract for the development, adaptation, integration and implementation of information solutions.
The introductory meeting of the program, which represents an important step in the modernization of Montenegro's customs information system as part of its approach to the European Union, was held in Podgorica on Tuesday and today.
"MECIS includes multiple related projects, common supporting components, integrations with national and European systems, as well as activities to introduce the new system into the production environment. The aim of the introductory meeting was to harmonize the program framework, methods of cooperation, key roles, interdependencies, risks and first activities after the start of the program," the statement said.
The modernization of the customs information system is also important in the context of Montenegro's planned entry into the European Union in 2028, as the new system will enable the harmonization of the Montenegrin customs environment with European requirements and practices.
"The key message of the meeting is that MECIS is not just a set of individual projects, but a comprehensive program framework, the success of which will be measured by a functional, connected and long-term sustainable customs information system after Montenegro's accession to the European Union," the statement concluded.
