The Gaming Authority, by participating in the conference of the European Gaming Regulators Forum (GREF) held in Sofia, confirmed its commitment to implementing the highest European standards in the field of regulation and supervision of the gaming market.
A delegation from the Gaming Authority, consisting of Director Spasoje Papić and Officer in the Department for Supervision and Risk Analysis, Dušan Kandić, participated in the regular annual GREF conference, held from Monday to Wednesday.
"GREF represents the most significant European network of regulatory authorities in the field of games of chance and today brings together 41 members from 35 European jurisdictions," the statement said.
The participation of the Montenegrin delegation was marked by numerous bilateral meetings and exchange of experiences with leading European regulators, which further confirmed the commitment of the Gaming Authority to strengthening international cooperation and the implementation of modern European regulatory standards.
"At the same time, such international gatherings contribute to strengthening institutional capacities and represent a significant contribution to the European integration process of Montenegro, through further harmonization of regulatory practices with modern European standards and strengthening cooperation with relevant international partners," said the Gaming Authority.
The Forum serves as a platform for cooperation, dialogue and knowledge exchange among regulators, with the aim of improving regulatory practices, strengthening international cooperation and developing effective mechanisms for supervising the gaming market. Through the exchange of experiences, regulatory approaches and expertise, GREF contributes to the improvement of a responsible and sustainable regulatory framework across Europe.
This year's conference was dedicated to the most current regulatory challenges, with a special focus on responsible gaming, prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing, player protection, application of new technologies, as well as the fight against the illegal gaming market, which represents one of the key challenges for European regulators.
"Special attention during the conference was devoted to strengthening international cooperation in combating illegal online gambling, exchanging experiences in the field of regulatory oversight, as well as finding effective mechanisms for protecting market integrity and promoting responsible gambling," the statement said.
During the conference, representatives of the Administration held a series of bilateral meetings with managers and representatives of leading European regulatory institutions.
Particularly significant were the discussions with GREF Chairman Anders Dorf, representatives of the UK Gambling Commission, the President of the French gambling regulator – the Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), Isabelle Falk-Pjeroten, as well as with the delegation of the Cyprus Gaming and Casino Supervisory Commission, led by the President of the Commission, Pieris Hurides.
Meetings were also held with representatives of the Hungarian Regulatory Authority (SZTFH), responsible for regulatory supervision of the gaming market, during which experiences were exchanged in the areas of regulatory supervision, risk assessment, combating illegal gaming and improving international cooperation.
Representatives of the Administration actively participated in discussions dedicated to the fight against the illegal gambling market, a topic that the GREF management has recognized as one of the most important priorities of European regulators in the coming period.
"In this context, various models of cooperation between regulatory bodies were considered, as well as the possibility of joint action to combat illegal activities and protect market participants," the statement concluded.
