Traffic Administration: Regional agreement signed to protect road infrastructure from extreme weather events

The Transport Authority announced today that a regional agreement has been signed to protect road infrastructure from extreme weather events.

"Director of the Transport Administration Radomir Vuksanović signed the Agreement on Cooperation within the Network of Heads of Road Administrations of the Transport Community, which includes the Western Balkan countries and the European Union Member States involved in the work of the Transport Community. The Agreement represents an important step in strengthening regional cooperation in the field of protecting and improving road infrastructure from the consequences of climate change and extreme weather events," the statement said.

The Transport Administration added that the agreement "establishes a framework for faster exchange of information, exchange of professional knowledge and experience, as well as mutual support in cases where floods, landslides, storms and other extreme weather events threaten the functioning of the road network."

The statement states that "by signing this agreement, Montenegro confirms its commitment to strengthening the resilience of transport infrastructure, improving regional connectivity and implementing European standards in the field of transport."

"Climate change represents a challenge that transcends national borders. That is why regional cooperation is crucial for the efficient protection of road infrastructure, faster response in emergency situations, and long-term improvement of traffic safety," said Vuksanović.

The Transport Administration said that they will continue to actively participate "in the initiatives of the Transport Community that contribute to the creation of a safer, more resilient and more sustainable transport system in Montenegro and the region."
