It is necessary to intensify activities so that the project to build the 110 kilovolt (kV) Rožaje substation, after years of challenges, finally moves from the administrative to the implementation level, it was assessed at a meeting between the Minister of Energy and Mining, Admir Šahmanović, and representatives of the competent municipal services.
At the meeting, it was agreed that expert teams from the Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System (CGES) and the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System (CEDIS), together with representatives of the Secretariat for Urbanism and Spatial Planning and the Investment Agency of the Municipality of Rožaje, would visit potential locations on Thursday that could meet the technical, spatial planning and other conditions necessary for further development of the project and future construction of facilities.
Šahmanović said that the issue of a safe and stable supply of electricity to Rožaje must be a common priority of all institutions involved in the project.
"The citizens of Rožaje must no longer be exposed to situations like the ones we witnessed a few months ago. Such circumstances cannot and must not be repeated. Therefore, it is important that we all give our full contribution so that the conditions for the start of the implementation of this project are created as soon as possible. The Ministry of Energy and Mining, as well as myself, will provide maximum support so that this issue can finally be resolved in a quality, sustainable and long-term manner," said Šahmanović.
He stated that the long-term solution is not only reflected in the construction of the 110 kV Rožaje substation, but also in strengthening the overall transmission infrastructure in this area.
In this context, Šahmanović recalled that recently, during a bilateral meeting in Belgrade with the Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, he also discussed the project to build the Rožaje-Tutin transmission line, which represents an important step towards strengthening the energy connection between the two countries.
"Serbia is interested and ready to work together on the implementation of this project. The construction of the Rožaje-Tutin transmission line, together with the future 110 kV substation in Rožaje, will contribute to a safer and more reliable supply of consumers who gravitate to this area, improve the stability of the power system and further strengthen energy cooperation in the region," emphasized Šahmanović.
CGES Director Ivan Asanović stated that the construction of the 110 kV Rožaje substation has already been included in the company's Development Plan, which was submitted to the Regulatory Agency for Energy and Regulated Utilities, and expressed his expectation that the project would receive the necessary approval for further implementation.
"CGES recognizes this project as one of the priority development projects in northern Montenegro. Its implementation will significantly improve the security and reliability of the power system, and will also create the conditions for the implementation of other important infrastructure projects in this part of the country," said Asanović.
The President of the Municipality of Rožaje Rahman Husović emphasized that the construction of the 110 kV Rožaje substation and the Rožaje–Tutin transmission line are among the most important infrastructure projects for the citizens of Rožaje.
"These are infrastructure projects that have multiple significance for our municipality. Their implementation will improve the security and quality of electricity supply, but will also create important prerequisites for the further development of the economy, new investments and the overall quality of life of citizens. I welcome Šahmanović's initiative to finally intensify this issue and to bring all relevant entities together at the same table in order to reach a sustainable and long-term solution," said Husović.
He stated that local government will be a reliable partner in that process.
"We are ready to provide all necessary support and logistics in order to create the conditions for the implementation of the project as soon as possible, because its importance for the citizens of Rožaje and the development of this region is immeasurable," said Husović.
CEDIS Director Vladimir Ivanović also agreed with the proposed activities, emphasizing that the company is ready to provide a full contribution to the implementation of the project, after creating the necessary planning and administrative prerequisites.
"CEDIS is ready, within its competence, to actively participate in all phases of the project's implementation. We believe that through joint action by all institutions, we can create the conditions for this long-awaited project to finally be implemented," said Ivanović.
The participants of the meeting agreed that the construction of the 110 kV Rožaje substation and the future implementation of the Rožaje–Tutin transmission line are projects of strategic importance for improving the quality of electricity supply, increasing network reliability, strengthening regional connectivity and creating conditions for further economic development of Rožaje and northern Montenegro.
Today's meeting represents an important step towards finally resolving an issue that is of great importance to the citizens of Rožaje, with a common message from all participants that institutions and energy companies will act in a coordinated manner to bring the project to the implementation phase as soon as possible and provide citizens with a safer and higher quality electricity supply.
