Locals using the Kovren - Gorice road have received asphalt for the first time, 3,2 kilometers long, worth around 206.000 euros including VAT. A celebration of the completion of this historic undertaking for them is scheduled for July 4th.
"The road from Kovren to Gorice was dug by hand back in 1964, and in recent decades only about 140 meters of the road at the top of Gorice have been asphalted. For decades, the Municipality of Bijelo Polje has not invested in this area, and due to the disastrous road, the locals have appealed several times," said a representative of the locals. Momcilo Kojović.
Road reconstruction works began after May 1st, and almost simultaneously, the reconstruction of the Pavino Polje - Sokolac road, nine kilometers long, worth around 660.000 euros, began. According to information from "Vijesti", these works are ongoing.
Kojović pointed out that the road to Gorice is ending despite numerous obstructions by the Mayor of the Municipality. Petar Smolović, recalling that locals organized several protests because of this.
"The company 'Konstruktor' did a good job, everything was done very well and according to the project. The remaining parts are the arrangement of the shoulders, that is, filling and rolling that part of the road," he said.
For decades, locals have pointed out the catastrophic condition of the road and the neglect of these areas by local authorities.
Kojović reminded that the funds for the construction of the Kovren-Gorice road were provided by an amendment of the New Serbian Democracy and the deputies. Jelena Božović.
"Since the Municipality of Bijelo Polje refused to implement the reconstruction and asphalting projects of the Kovren - Gorice road, the Ministry of Public Works took over these two roads," Kojović reminded.
Smolović has repeatedly claimed that this was not obstruction.
The Europe Now Movement previously told "Vijesti" that funds for the Pavino Polje - Sokolac road were provided by an amendment by their deputies. Boris Pejović, Jelenka Andric, Dražen Petrić i Jelena NedovicAndrić said that for decades this road route was used to take the natural resources of the area, especially timber. J. Ć.
