The head of the Civic Movement URA parliamentary group, Miloš Konatar, announced that the state collects 54,9 cents from each liter of gasoline through excise duty and 44 cents from each liter of diesel.
"Instead of taking into account the enormous price increase and protecting the living standards of citizens, the Government is trying to shift the consequences of poor economic policy management and turbulent global market movements directly onto the pockets of citizens. Such an attitude is felt every day, both in household budgets and in the business operations of the economy in Montenegro," Konatar pointed out.
According to him, the ruling majority rejected the URA Bill back in March, which, they say, would have reduced excise duties on fuel by 50 percent by the end of June.
"If our proposal had been adopted, citizens and the economy would have had significantly lower costs today. However, the government decided to preserve budget revenues at the expense of citizens, instead of taking on part of the burden of the crisis," Konatar said.
According to him, during that time, the stability of family budgets was seriously undermined, while the Government failed to fulfill its basic obligation - to stop the rise in prices of basic foodstuffs and protect the living standards of citizens.
"This kind of relationship best shows how far the ruling elite is from the real problems of citizens. While citizens are looking for a way to cover their basic living expenses every day, the government remains silent on their needs and rejects measures that would bring them concrete relief," concluded Konatar.
