Đeljošaj: We have unlocked the door to EU membership

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Minister of Economic Development, Nik Đeljošaj, welcomed the provisional closure of the negotiating Chapter 8 - Competition, emphasizing that it is another important step for the country on its path towards full membership in the European Union (EU).

Montenegro provisionally closed Chapters 8 and 29 today, at the Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels.

As announced by the Ministry of Economic Development, Đeljošaj emphasized that this government department made a direct and measurable contribution to the closure of a record seven negotiation chapters, thus confirming a high level of professionalism, responsibility and commitment to the European agenda.

"Today's result is not a coincidence, but a confirmation of the dedicated work of institutions and people who have been diligently fulfilling European standards for months. We have unlocked the door to Montenegro's entry into the European Union and now it is up to us to continue on that path resolutely and without setbacks," said Đeljošaj.

He particularly praised the team of the Ministry of Economic Development, which, as he said, has shown that expertise, responsibility and efficiency bring concrete results in the most important state processes.

"I am proud of the team of the Ministry of Economic Development, which has implemented every obligation from beginning to end, with quality and within the stipulated deadlines. These successes belong precisely to the people who, with their knowledge and work, contributed to Montenegro being one step closer to membership in the European Union," emphasized Đeljošaj.

The statement states that competition policy is one of the key pillars of a modern market economy, as it ensures equal business conditions for all market participants, encourages innovation, attracts investment and strengthens the competitiveness of the economy.

At the same time, it is added, it contributes to greater choice, better quality and more affordable prices of products and services for citizens, creating sustainable and dynamic economic development in line with EU standards.
