"How many more price increases need to occur before the Government finally adopts an anti-crisis package of measures? A few days ago, we called on the Government to urgently react and protect citizens from price increases, and instead of responding to that appeal, citizens were greeted with a new increase in fuel prices. It is time for the Government to stop being a silent observer and finally offer concrete solutions, because citizens can no longer wait," said the Civic Movement URA.
The URA Movement reminds us that they warned that every new price increase directly affects the standard of living of citizens, especially considering that the increase in fuel prices inevitably spills over into the prices of food, transportation, goods and services.
"The greatest burden is once again borne by citizens, who feel the consequences of rising prices every day, while the Government still does not offer concrete measures that would mitigate this impact," the URA said.
As they point out, the anti-crisis package of measures should include limiting excise taxes on fuel, increasing pensions by 40 euros without additional burden on the budget, signing a General Collective Agreement, as well as limiting the prices of basic foodstuffs.
"The state cannot control the price of oil on the world market, but it can protect its citizens from the consequences of these movements. This is the responsibility of every serious government. Citizens do not expect new explanations for why prices are rising, but rather concrete measures that will protect their standard of living," the URA said.
The party reiterates that numerous countries in the region have already introduced various measures to support citizens and the economy, while Montenegro still does not have a systemic and comprehensive response to the rising cost of living.
"At a time when inflation and rising costs of living pose one of the biggest challenges for household budgets, citizens expect the state to finally start protecting them from the consequences of rising prices," the URA concludes.
