The decision on the development model of the Airport of Montenegro must be based on a transparent process, quality analyses and the undoubted interest of the state and citizens, said Nebojša Vuksanović, advisor to the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, for internal policy and economic development.

Regarding the information that the South Korean company Incheon International Airport Corporation had withdrawn from the concession award procedure for Montenegrin airports, he recalled that "from the very beginning they pointed out numerous shortcomings and compromises" of that process, which today, "unfortunately, is confirmed as a justified concern."

"On this occasion, we also addressed the Protector of Property and Legal Interests of Montenegro, as well as the members of the Parliament who were supposed to confirm the Government's decision, warning of the serious risks of continuing the procedure initiated in 2019, in significantly changed economic and market circumstances," he adds.

Of particular concern, he said, is the fact that a credible international company withdrew from the process, while the Government "at no time showed willingness" to review or suspend the procedure and initiate a new one, based on current economic, financial and development parameters.

"Considering that the remaining participants in the proceedings have also publicly questioned its regularity and announced arbitration proceedings, I believe that the conditions have been met to put an end to this failed attempt to complete the transfer of one of the most important state resources and natural monopoly for a period of thirty years at any cost," Vuksanović said.

It is important to reiterate, as he said, that the question is not whether the concession is an acceptable model for the development of the Airport of Montenegro.

"However, any decision of this importance must be based on a transparent process, quality analyses and the undoubted interest of the state and citizens.
