The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) called on the Government to urgently and without delay reduce excise taxes on fuel, and prevent a new blow to citizens' living standards.
"We warned that reducing excise taxes on fuel could mitigate the consequences of fuel price increases on citizens' living standards. Today we see that the Government has ignored the appeal of the DPS from last week to correct excise taxes and has decided that the citizens of Montenegro will pay for the new fuel price increase. And the price increase of nine cents from last week and 14 cents from this week is not a market necessity, but a political decision not to protect citizens' living standards," said the head of the DPS parliamentary group Andrija Nikolić during today's session of the Parliament.
He said that citizens must not be collateral for the government's "irresponsible policies."
"We call on the Government to react urgently and without delay, because if it does not do so, we will certainly have a chain effect of increasing the prices of basic foodstuffs in the coming days," said Nikolić.
