The President of the European Union's Parliamentary Group, Boris Mugoša, pointed out that the Government continues to profit at the expense of citizens and the economy, which are unfortunately the only ones bearing the burden of the energy crisis.

"Due to the fact that the Government, without any explanation, decided to abolish the legally permitted percentage of excise duty reduction and to include the full amount of excise duty (44 cents per liter) in the price of diesel, which is state revenue, i.e. the budget, citizens will pay 1,81 euros for one liter of diesel," Mugoša said.

He points out that this is 47 cents per liter more than a few months ago, or a 35 percent increase in the price of diesel, and that the state earns an additional 8 cents per liter from that difference of 47 cents, based on VAT, which is also calculated on excise duties.

Mugoša points out that the state earns about 75 cents from the price of a liter of fuel through excise taxes and VAT, and that a significant increase in fuel prices also affects the prices of numerous goods and services.

"The government urgently needs to implement the legal mechanism adopted a few years ago at the proposal of European Union representatives and temporarily reduce excise taxes on fuel, in order to correct the significant increase in fuel prices and the consequences of that increase on the standard of living of citizens," said Mugoša.
