The Ministry of Maritime Affairs has successfully completed the peer review of the foreign ship control system within the framework of the Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control (Paris MoU), the government department announced.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs said that the expert assessment was conducted in Montenegro from August 30 to September 3.

"The international team included two representatives of the Paris MoU Secretariat, a representative of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), as well as representatives of the maritime administrations of Norway and the United Kingdom," the statement said.

Maritime Affairs Minister Filip Radulović said that during the expert assessment, the organization and functioning of the Montenegrin foreign ship control system, the work and training of PSC inspectors, the application of Paris MoU procedures, as well as relevant national documentation were analyzed.

"A special part of the assessment related to practical work, during which Montenegrin PSC inspectors, together with members of the international team, carried out four inspections of foreign ships in Montenegrin ports," said Radulović.

The statement states that the conducted expert assessment represents a significant step in further improving the Montenegrin system of foreign ship control, strengthening human resources, and confirming Montenegro's commitment to navigation safety, protection of human lives and the marine environment, as well as the implementation of international and European standards in maritime affairs.
