The thermal power complex in Pljevlja produced around 65 percent of the electricity within the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG) during June, July and August of this year.
"Thermal Power Plant (TPP) and Pljevlja Coal Mine form a unique energy production system. Their operation ensures stable production of electricity from domestic resources," the statement said.
Regular coal deliveries enabled, it was added, the reliable and continuous operation of the Pljevlja TPP. The unit operated at an average power of around 200 megawatts (MW). It produced around 4,8 thousand megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity daily.
"In three months, approximately 442 thousand MWh of electricity were produced. The market value of that production exceeded EUR 51 million," the statement said.
EPCG announced that for the same amount of electricity at current prices on the HUPX stock exchange, it would be necessary to allocate around EUR 57,4 million. This amount does not include the costs of cross-border capacities and fees.
"The data confirms the economic and energy value of the Pljevlja complex. Domestic production reduces the need for electricity imports. At the same time, it contributes to the stability of the Montenegrin electricity system," the statement said.
The importance of the Pljevlja TPP and the Coal Mine is particularly evident in periods of reduced hydrological availability.
"The Pljevlja thermal power complex remains one of the key pillars of Montenegro's energy security. Its operation confirms the importance of domestic energy resources for a stable and reliable supply of electricity," the statement concludes.
