Podgorica Mayor Ivan Vuković today presented planned capital projects and investment potentials of the Capital City to representatives of the diplomatic corps and foreign businessmen in Montenegro during a working breakfast, inviting them to help their realization within the scope of their competences, the PG bureau announced.
"We are here to provide you with all the information in order to draw the attention of investors from your countries and hopefully bring some of them to Podgorica," said Vuković.
The PG bureau said that today's presentation highlighted the ambition for the capital to continue the accelerated development that began during the term of mayor Miomir Mugoša and continued during the term of Slavoljub Stijepović.
"Among the projects that are yet to be implemented, in addition to the most important wastewater treatment plant, Mayor Vuković highlighted the planned provision of boulevard approaches to the city from all sides, the project to convert biogas from the landfill into electricity and the construction of a solar power plant. In the field of sports, the construction of the eastern stands of the City Stadium, the construction of a tennis academy, the reconstruction of the Small Sports Stadium, as well as the construction of the national football stadium," stated the PG bureau.
"These projects are not only important for us, they are of great importance for the entire country," Vuković pointed out.
Stating that one of the biggest challenges in Podgorica is solving the problem of public transport, Vuković stated that in that part he will emulate the solutions already implemented by Belgrade, mentioning the possibility of introducing electric buses, while when it comes to the need to revive the city center of Podgorica use the example of Ljubljana, which opened its center for pedestrians and cyclists.
Vuković also informed the guests about the possibilities of building an expo center, shopping malls, an aqua park, as well as several hotels in different parts of the city, and in addition, he drew their attention to the zones where benefits are available for investors - Industrial Zone A, Agro- industrial zone and Service-storage zone with marshalling station.
"We are trying to attract investors through different models such as private-public partnership, foreign direct investments, and through the new ESCO method, which will be very important from next year," said Vuković.
He specifically referred to the constant struggle with the problem of unemployment, stating that projects such as the business incubator, the Competence Center and others aim to motivate, above all, young people to start their own business instead of seeking employment from the state.
Vuković said that he expects support for numerous social projects initiated by the capital, especially in the area of environmental protection, sports and culture.
"It doesn't take much to make changes that will be visible to the majority," concluded Vuković.
