The Kotor board of the SDP announced that the entire opposition public and the citizens of Kotor expect the SNP to declare whether they will form an executive power in that city with the opposition.
"Immediately after the election, representatives of the opposition gathered in the premises of the SDP, with the exception of the SNP, and clearly expressed their position that only with the representatives of the opposition, without the DPS, they form a new government in Kotor. On October 24, the newly elected councilors of the Democrats, Democratic front, SDP and URE signed a joint statement that they will not negotiate with DPS on the formation of a new government in the municipality of Kotor. We remind you that the newly elected councilors of SNP have not yet signed that statement. The entire opposition public and the citizens of Kotor expect to declare about that key fact, which shows the intentions in the constitution of the municipal government, and for which the citizens gave their vote to the SNP," the announcement states.
The SDP reminds the citizens of Kotor that the political subjects, who declared even before the election that they would not enter into a coalition with the DPS, won the support of the citizens of Kotor and seventeen council mandates on that platform.
"Everyone who knows the system of local self-government knows that the mandate of the elected appointed persons in the municipality of Kotor has ended and that they only perform their functions until the election of a new executive authority. The best defense against this situation continuing is the formation of a new opposition government as soon as possible without suspicious conditioning of anyone. Knowing that Dr. Branko Ivanović, as the former president of the municipality, is very well aware that, in the event of failure to form a government, until new elections, according to the proposal of the SNP, all power would be handed over to the DPS. We do not want to believe that not signing the joint statement with the opposition, it has to do with the proposal of the SNP. Also, we do not want to believe that the SNP wants the DPS to rule and inn Kotor for months, just as the Government of Montenegro sold Luka Bar and Buljarica in the middle of the election," the statement added.
The announcement adds that the SDP, although it was the initiator of the first meeting of the opposition, does not want to give any excuse to those whose demands are very strange and "we will be ready to wait for any agreement of the opposition at the next meeting and be ready to support any decision that will lead to the formation of a new opposition government."
"Despite the unintentional or intentional mistakes of individuals in the opposition, the SDP strongly believes that the new government in Kotor will be formed by 17 opposition councilors. The SDP will continue to unreservedly make every effort to get an opposition mayor, so that the enormous hopes and trust of the people of Kotor are not betrayed." the statement concluded.
