The High Court in Podgorica considered today the second of two agreements with Svetozar Marović, in which he agreed with the Prosecutor's Office to spend two and a half years in prison and to pay 50.000 euros for humanitarian purposes.
If this agreement is accepted, Marović will spend a total of 4,3 years in prison, pay 100.000 euros for humanitarian purposes and compensate 1,096 million euros of damage to the budget caused by the criminal organization for which he assumed responsibility.
Marović is accused of fraud and abuse of official position by incitement in embezzlement with the sale of state land and construction in Budva.
Marović's lawyer Zdravko Begović told reporters today that he expects the court to approve the agreement as soon as possible. Begović announced that his client had to be hospitalized today due to cardiovascular problems, but that he was refusing hospital treatment and that he wanted to appear before the court.
At the beginning of Sunday, the court accepted the first of two agreements with the former president of the state union and until recently a high official of the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).
Marović was arrested in December 2015 and spent in prison until May of this year, when he was released after reaching a settlement with the Prosecutor's Office. He resigned from party positions in June this year.
