SDP: Reduce salaries for civil servants and increase salaries for doctors

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is committed to improving the financial position of healthcare workers, said party official Mirko Stanić and recalled that the party initiated the scheduling of an extraordinary session of the Assembly to discuss changes to the Law on Salaries in the Public Sector. Stanić said that the financial position of medical staff and doctors is bad, which is why the SDP initiated changes to the Law, in order to increase their salaries. "The law that we submitted to the parliament envisages a reduction in salaries for officials, which were increased by 50 to 100 percent. DPS, it seems, was only interested in officials," Stanić said at the press conference. He said that the Law was submitted to the procedure 15 days ago, that 27 signatures are needed to schedule an extraordinary session. "Colleagues from the opposition are willing to support our intention. We will ask everyone to support us," Stanić said, RTCG reports. Doctor Angela Ćorić said that SDP proposed changes to the law in order to correct provisions that are unfair.

"It is inadmissible for the state to reduce a doctor's salary to a level that does not correspond to the importance of the profession for a society. It cannot be a just society where a doctor, specialist, or subspecialist has a lower coefficient than the adviser to the general secretary in the government," she said.
