The Serbian authorities are not ready to arrest the former vice-president of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Svetozar Marović for political reasons.

The "Vijesti" source claims that certain diplomats of the European Union in Belgrade have been informed that the government there, which President Aleksandar Vučić wears and dresses, is not ready to arrest the former president of the former state union of Serbia and Montenegro, even though they know his Belgrade address.

At a meeting with representatives of the Government of Ana Brnabić, diplomats from EU member states were allegedly interested in why the police in Belgrade do not arrest Marović, even though they know where he lives, where he walks and which church he visits because of the "suffering he experiences".

One of the participants in that conversation told "Vijesti" that a high-ranking official of the Serbian MUP replied in a low voice that it was a "political matter".

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia did not answer the question of "Vijesti" whether they know where Marović is, for whom an international warrant has been issued, and why he has not been arrested yet.

"Vijesti" was unofficially told that Marović lives in an apartment in Vračar, in Njegoševa street.

The Police Directorate previously informed "Vijesta" that they had submitted information on Marović's location to Interpol in Belgrade, from which they sent feedback that the request had been forwarded to the competent authorities for further action.

"Given that there was no response from the competent authorities in Serbia, NCB Interpol Podgorica officers sent several emergency calls to which no response has been received so far," claims the Police Administration.

The Ministry of Justice recently announced that Montenegro has done everything, but that Serbia is not ready to extradite Marović.

Marović's lawyer, Zdravko Begović, has repeatedly said publicly that his client is being treated in the capital of Serbia, that his health condition has deteriorated and that he is therefore unable to come to serve his prison sentence.

After a settlement with the prosecutors, the Higher Court in Podgorica sentenced Marović to three years and ten months in prison as the head of the Budva criminal group that damaged the local budget by several million euros.

According to the same court decision, Marović must pay 1.100.000 euros in compensation and 100.000 euros for humanitarian purposes.

Marović admitted before the special prosecutors that he was the head of a criminal group that damaged the budget of the Municipality of Budva by tens of millions of euros in eight corruption scandals.

Given that he did not pay a single cent for humanitarian purposes, his prison sentence was increased by a year.

Marović was arrested in December 2015 and spent about five months in Spuška prison.

After his release, he went to Belgrade and it is not known that he stayed in Montenegro in the meantime.

The former head of the DPS Political Council concluded two plea agreements with the prosecutor's office, concerning the "Plato na Jazu", "TQ Plaza", "Prijevor", "Copyright", "Wastewater", "Krapina" scandals. "Donji Bulevar" and "Property".
