Despite many challenges, today we have political stability and we are actively working to improve the electoral process, according to the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Darko Pajović.

"We solved the political crisis ourselves, without international mediation, and we are very proud of that. I am sure that this is a good indicator of democratic progress and political maturity, which we have achieved as a country", he said at the opening of the plenary session of the XXV session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly .

Pajović officially invited the Parliamentary Assembly to participate in observing the parliamentary elections in Montenegro, which will be held in October this year, bearing in mind that this Assembly and the OSCE were always ready to help Montenegro when it needed it most.

"The mistrust surrounding the election process in Montenegro led to the fact that 11 out of 12 political subjects in the parliament sat down and after several months of talks signed the Agreement on cooperation between the government and the opposition. The result of that Agreement is the Government of Electoral Confidence, which was elected and which includes representatives of the government, but also for the first time after the establishment of the multi-party system and the opposition. The party I lead, Positive Montenegro, on January 27 of this year gave conditional support to the Government, seeking the entry of the opposition into the same Government. For the first time in 27 years, the opposition took over portfolios in the government, including ministerial positions in the Ministries of Interior, Finance, Agriculture, Labor and Social Welfare, as well as Deputy Prime Ministers. All of this resulted in political stability in the country, as a prerequisite for ensuring fair and free elections, and further democratization of the country, which enabled continued EU and NATO integration," Pajović said.

He added that, as the President of the Assembly, when it comes to elections, to do everything in his power to contribute to the process itself.

"We have nothing to hide, and there is nothing that is impossible to do in order to fulfill these goals. The Parliament of Montenegro is taking many important steps in this regard, and we expect that in the coming weeks and months we will play an active role in accordance with our duties and responsibilities. As the end result of the overall efforts, I believe that the next time we meet, we will all witness a politically stable and democratically stronger Montenegro," he said.
