The Ambassador of Montenegro in Albania, Ferhat Dinoša, asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for an official position regarding the Dictionary of the Montenegrin Folk and Literary Language, part of which was published by the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts.
Dinoša states in the letter, which MVPEI forwarded to CANU president Momir Đurović, that Socialist Party MP in the Parliament of Albania Ljeda Šamko Škrelja delivered an open letter to CANU to the embassy in Tirana, in which she stated that the Dictionary contains a number of inaccurate and offensive interpretations of words and expressions related to with Albanians and their culture.
He states that Šamko Škrelja provided the page of the Dictionary where the expression "Albanize" is clarified.
In the CAN Dictionary, in the explanation of the expression "Albanize", it is stated that "although the Malisori are Albanianized, their speech is significantly different from standard Albanian".
"Does it mean that Malisori, according to CANU, were Slavs who defected from Albania, who were later Albanianized? No, CANU should know that Albanians in Montenegro have been in Montenegro since the beginning of the sun and moon, on their own land, each on their own. This is rude a chauvinist anachronism that I believed no longer resides in neighboring Montenegro. Therefore, I demand that CANA apologize to the Albanians and correct this gross mistake as soon as possible," her reaction quoted by Dinoša in the letter states.
In the letter, Dinoša adds that the Academy of Sciences also responded, asking to see the entire content of the dictionary in order to make a judgment. Dinoša said that it should be expected that reactions and condemnations will continue.
"I think it would be good to submit an official position on this matter to the Embassy as soon as possible, so that it can readily respond to the possible interests of journalists and the curious. There must be no "hunting in the dark", any distortion of historical facts and casting any shadow. to exemplary good-neighborly relations between Montenegrins and Albanians and between Montenegro and Albania," said Dinoša.
He also requested that a copy of the dictionary be delivered to the embassy in Tirana. The Bosniak party asked the Ministry of Science to ban the circulation of the dictionary.
