We are surprised that the former detainee of the American Guantanamo prison, Abdul Aziz Al-Suvejdi, is coming to Montenegro after his release, where he will "start a new life" as the Pentagon said, the Movement for the Neutrality of Montenegro announced.

American authorities have sent Guantanamo detainee Abdul Aziz Al-Suvejdi, who was considered a "high-risk detainee" eight years ago, to Montenegro.

"Considering that Guantánamo is known as the gulag of our time in which the US authorities held and continue to hold many prisoners without charge for many years, denying them basic human rights and often subjecting them to torture, it remains unclear why this particular detainee was given the opportunity to is resocializing in Montenegro. The movement for neutrality respects the right to innocence and the fact that Al-Suwaydi has never been convicted of his crimes, but if the WikiLeaks documents from 2008 say that he "probably posed a threat to the US, its interests and allies", and that he was "the trainer of Osama bin Laden's bombers", how did it come about that he is now harmless, that he repented, that he became an atheist? Based on what evidence and what information?", the statement of the Movement for Neutrality states.

The statement added that the veil of secrecy surrounding this news must worry everyone.

"Although we welcome every humane gesture, it must be pointed out that most of the former Guantanamo detainees have gone to the countries where they once lived or whose citizenship they hold. Such is the case with the detainee who recently came to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since Al-Suvejdi has never been in Montenegro, nor does he possess our citizenship, what prompted our government to accept him and offer him a new home? But knowing how often (never) our diplomacy deviates from what some American undersecretary or ambassador tells it, we can conclude that this is exclusively done on a foreign directive, which speaks volumes for how much our government cares about the sovereignty of our country. The question also remains, if Al-Suwaydi is no longer a danger to anyone and wants to resocialize, and if he was actually innocent all along, why did the US did they not receive, considering that the standard is much higher, opportunities much wider than in small Montenegro, especially if we bear in mind that they are responsible for his sufferings in recent years? Why is it up to Montenegro to correct the mistakes and inactions of the USA, have we become their penal colony?" said the Movement for Neutrality.

This NGO said that by approaching NATO, Montenegro is only losing its sovereignty.

"We will listen to everything we are told and obey calmly, without grumbling, every directive of the great powers, above all the USA. Supposedly, we will have the right to decide for ourselves, and essentially those decisions will be made by the ambassadors and undersecretaries of the USA. So we will vote according to their directive for any military action, for the opening of bases on our territory, for participation in all possible missions where our soldiers will keep their heads in a bag, etc. What worries us the most in this situation is the complete absence of any announcement, any consultation with the citizens of Montenegro we have to find out about things like this from the foreign media. Who knows what else is hidden from the eyes of the citizens and is related to joining NATO," the announcement concludes.
