The proposal of Dragan Šimrak from the SDP that the councilors of the Municipal Assembly should include in the agenda the consideration of the initiative to erect a memorial to the victims of the deportation of BiH citizens from Herceg Novi was not accepted.
"Dozens of innocent citizens who fled to Herceg Novi during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina were deported from our city, and later the largest number were killed. Erecting a monument is the least we can do. In this way, they would show their due respect for the victims, and thus send a clear warning to the younger generations that this kind of crime must not be repeated," Šimrak said.
He reminded that several non-governmental organizations launched such an initiative in 2011, and a month ago they submitted it to the President of the Municipality and all councilor clubs, and explained that the competent secretariat should include it in the work program for the next year, with the prior consent of the competent ministry. .
During the voting, the councilors of DPS, Izbor and Novska Lista abstained, and the councilors of the SNP and the Democrats' Club were outside the assembly hall during the voting. The proposal was supported by two SDP councilors: Milica Berberović and Dragan Šimrak and councilor Jovana Šijaković from Izbor.
"We should have been very optimistic and expected that this parliamentary convocation would support the installation of a memorial plaque to the deported refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992. At that time, the representatives of the parties that still make up two-thirds of the convocation (the unified DPS and NS) deported them with paramilitary units under the command of Radovan Karadžić. It is especially hypocritical to abstain on this very serious issue, it is fairer to be against it, but they did not have the courage to do so. I think that with this kind of attitude towards a civilizational issue, above all, they sent a bad message to our partners on the European and Euro-Atlantic path. This vote clearly showed how far we are from modern, democratic, legally regulated states", commented Gojko Pejović, former member of the Main Board of the SDP.
The proposal for a decision on the final account of the Municipal Budget for 2013 and 2014 was not accepted either. The law did not foresee any sanctions or consequences for not adopting the final budget bill, but it was heard from the opposition benches, in truth, that "it is moral that someone should be held accountable for this".
The councilors unanimously decided to realize the special interest of protecting and improving green areas on the territory of the municipality of Herceg Novi. Mladen Kadić, head of the Secretariat for Spatial Planning, Construction, Communal Activities and Environmental Protection, said that, among other things, a cadastre of green areas and trees, as well as a strategy for the development of green areas with an action plan for the period 2015 to 2020, will be prepared.
