There is a strong reason for Montenegro to become the next NATO member, British Prime Minister David Cameron said at the global security forum GLOBSEC, which is being held in Bratislava.
"We supported it at the very successful NATO Summit in Wales," Cameron said.
He added that he believes that this will be the focus of all subsequent discussions within NATO.
"It is important for you that, in addition to political consensus, you also reach civil consensus on the issue of NATO," Cameron pointed out.
During his presentation at the Forum, he said that it is important to emphasize how important NATO is for a country, the obligations in the reforms that are necessary, as well as how important it is to have the strongest support of the citizens.
"So political consensus on this issue is important, but civil consensus is also important," Cameron said.
In Great Britain, as he stated, there are parties that do not want to leave the European Union, and those that do.
"But we all agree on one thing, that membership in NATO is vitally important for British interests, that we are an important part of this organization, that is, as I often say, we have the largest military budget in Europe".
"The greater consensus you bring in your country on this issue, the greater role you will have in NATO, and the members will certainly give you even greater support," Cameron said.
