Prime Minister Duško Marković said in New York at a meeting of the Socialist International that "for more than two decades, politics based on the values of the Socialist International - namely the values of peace, stability, coexistence, solidarity and multi-ethnic and multi-religious harmony - has been strongly winning in Montenegro."
"Our longevity is based on this and we are proud of it," said Marković at the meeting held on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.
As announced by the Government, the Prime Minister said that thanks to these values, Montenegro became a member of NATO last year and has been successfully negotiating membership with the EU for six years.
Speaking about global issues, Marković said that today multilateralism is threatened and that the principles of solidarity and togetherness are called into question and that today there are attempts to put the nation above common values.
"We think that multilateralism does not have to lead to conflicts between nations and states, but to the merging of values and cultures that connect us. These values and cultures give us new content and new opportunities for us, more freedom for the individual and a greater perspective for our countries. That's why here I respect and confirm our determination that multilateralism has no alternative," said Marković.
He added that resistance should be unleashed against all those who do the opposite and who want to "make this world and our countries spaces where there is no multi-ethnic and multi-religious harmony, togetherness and solidarity".
