Montenegro has made impressive progress on its way to the European Union (EU), said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevičs, at a meeting with the Speaker of the Montenegrin Parliament, Ranko Krivokapić.
Today, Krivokapić and Rinkevičs discussed the relations between Montenegro and Latvia, with a special emphasis on the relations between the parliaments of the two countries.
As announced by Krivokapić's cabinet, the interlocutors agreed that parliaments are important for democratic processes in society.
Rinkevičs, as stated, said that Montenegro's impressive progress is on the way to the EU, as well as the dynamics of the negotiations.
Krivokapić and Rinkevičs concluded that the process of harmonizing the legislation of Montenegro with the acquis of the EU is demanding.
They stated that achieving the rule of law, the fight against organized crime and corruption are key to the further reform path of Montenegro.
Krivokapić emphasized that the Parliament of Montenegro improved its work mechanisms through parliamentary hearings and the inclusion of the non-governmental sector in the committee's work.
