The Democratic Front (DF) will not organize the celebration of the Orthodox New Year tonight, but the leaders of that political alliance will attend a prayer service in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, which will be officiated by the Metropolitan of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Amfilohije.
In DF, they claim that they gave up on the organized reception after Podgorica mayor Ivan Vuković he did not allow them to set up a stage on Independence Square.
"After consulting with Metropolitan Amfilohi, we decided not to accept possible reserve locations, and not to allow anyone to humiliate us, but decided to celebrate and welcome the New Year in the temple, where a prayer service will be held at midnight. The Orthodox community throughout Montenegro, as every year, despite various obstructions, will celebrate the Serbian New Year in a traditional way, and no one can prevent them from doing so," DF announced.
The leaders of the Front previously announced that they would organize a reception with trumpet players and folk stars on Independence Square, but the administration of the Capital City did not give them permission because the furniture of the Podgorica holiday bazaar is located in that area.
They then said that the furniture would be removed on January 15.
