The proposed amendments to the Law on the National Security Agency (ANB) allow unlimited access to citizens' personal data, and thereby increase the possibility of misuse, according to Positive Montenegro.

The vice-president of that party, Mirčeta Tomčić, said that the proposed amendments further expand the competences of ANB officials, as they stipulate that legal entities, state and local government bodies are obliged to provide Agency officials with access to all their data through direct inspection.

"Such authorizations enable unrestricted access to citizens' personal data, thereby increasing the possibility of misuse," Tomčić's announcement states.

He said that for Positive Montenegro, these additional increases in the authority of ANB officials would not be a problem "if the National Security Agency really works in the interest of the security of the state and its citizens, and not the party in power."

"In a system where there is no political will to reform the security services, and thus no serious and effective fight against organized crime and corruption, we have a problem with the additional powers of ANB officials, because they increase the risk zone for further abuses," assessed Tomčić.

According to him, the government must finally understand that ANB must be freed from political influence.

"In order to carry out her work independently and professionally for the purpose of security and protection of the state and its citizens, not individuals in power," Tomčić concluded.
