The director of the National Security Agency (ANB) Boro Vučinić claims that this institution does not monitor opposition leaders and insufficiently loyal representatives of the government.
Vučinić rejected such a possibility at the session of the Parliamentary Committee on Security after, during the discussion on the amendments to the Law on ANB, Democratic Front MP Predrag Bulatović expressed doubts about such activities of the agency.
"We do not follow opposition leaders and representatives of the government. They would only do that if they threatened national security, and that has not happened so far," said Vučinić.
He also said that ANB "does not show interest in journalists or NGOs, nor does it follow them".
"We are only interested in someone's work that threatens national security, the constitutional order, or if it spreads hatred. Come and inspect and familiarize yourself with the secret surveillance measures implemented by ANB," he told Bulatović at the Board.
The committee supported the proposal to amend the law on ANB by the majority of votes of DPS-SDP MPs, while Bulatović was against it, and MPs from Pozitivna and SNP Darko Pajović and Velizar Kaludjerović abstained.
The government requested that the parliament adopt changes to the law, which is adapted to NATO standards, as a matter of urgency.
