The Bosniak Party and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) reached an agreement last night on the formation of a coalition in Rožaje, leaving the Democratic Party without power in that city after more than two decades.
This will leave Nusret Kalač from DPS without a chair, who was the longest-serving mayor in Montenegro for 21 years at the head of Rožaj.
President of the Rožaj board of BS Husein Kurtagić said that the signing of the agreement on the coalition is expected by the end of the week. According to the preliminary agreement, Bosniaks will have the post of mayor and president of the Municipality, while SDP will have the vice president of the Municipality.
"For now, we have agreed on the distribution of functions, so SDP will have six. SDP will have a vice-president and manager of the Municipality, a director of the Business Center, a head of one of the utilities companies, a secretary of the Secretariat for Culture and Social Activities and a director of one of the public institutions," said Kurtagić. He expects that the new government will fulfill its pre-election promises, among which is the creation of a "more functional, transparent and high-quality local government".
In the local elections, BS won 17 out of 34 council mandates, which is eight more than in the previous convocation. The SDP won four council seats, that is, three less than in the 2010 elections.
The DPS, which exercised absolute power for about two decades, will move into the opposition with 12 councilors, which is six less than in the previous mandate, while the BDZ will have one.
